"I don't paint nature, I am nature."-

Title: Jemaah Sejuk
Year: 2007
Media: Mixed media on canvas
When we open the door of our house, the first thing we'll see is the white painting or the official title for it is "Jemaah Sejuk,(2007)." This painting had gone through a multi layering process which at one point had made my friend, Sap, really excited about it. However, I kept on working on it until one day, a collector who came over, expressed her interest in the work. Since I haven't finished with it yet, I kept on working until it reached its current stage. That was in 2007. Fast forward to 2009, it has been hanged there about a year by now. I like it very much as it brings some winter memory back then in the cold Milwaukee, especially the quiet drive thru from Maryland to downtown passing the frozen lake and the still "in progress" Calatrava's additional of M.A.M. Btw, Sap and the collector's interest on the work had deminished.

Title: Jemaah Biru
Year: 2007
Media: Acrylic on canvas
Jemaah Biru is very small on two pieces canvas. The brushstrokes are very controlled, suggesting the artist is working on a very limited space. The colors play an important role as when I started, the color scheme was very yellowish, which I don't like it as the element of dirt/earth was too strong. Here, with the Blue, the unreal atmosphere is present and amazingly it has defected the white from actually representing snow/coldness.
*Jemaah Biru is hanged in my studio.

Title: Jemaah Hijau
Year: 2007
Media: Oil on canvas
Jemaah Hijau is painted on an overworked self-portrait. That explained the thick application of colors. When I finally feel at ease with this painting, the colors had started to blend nicely and the structure of the mountain has come out. The unreal blue sky is my favorite for its dreamy presentation of reality and also the hollowness of the middle part of the green that suggesting the structure of the ground.
Why all landscapes are still a Jemaah? I painted them in a similar way as the jemaah drawings.
